When were you born?
My birthday is March 2, 1980.
Where were you born?
I was born in Jacksonville, Florida, and I lived there until I was 18 years old. My family still lives there, and I visit often.
Where do you live now?
I live in the Albany area of New York State. I lived in New York City for many years, and I moved upstate in 2022 for a new job at a video game studio.
Do you have any siblings?
Yes, I have two! I’m the oldest. My brother is a year and a half younger than me. My sister is ten years younger than me.
Do you have any kids?
Yep! I have one son. He was born in 2023.
How many books have you written?
I’ve written or co-written 30 books as of January 2025. Roll for Danger #1: The Cursed Catacombs (July 2025) will be my 31st book.
Did you always want to be a writer?
I’ve always enjoyed making my own stories. I created my first super-hero while in third grade. He was a glow-in-the-dark ninja named Firefly. But as a kid, I didn’t know that “writer” was a real job. For a long time, I thought I would probably grow up to be a scientist.
What was your favorite subject in school?
I loved science, especially biology. I enjoy learning about animals.
Do you have any super powers?
No, and it’s probably because I didn’t eat my spinach growing up. Eat your spinach!
If you had a super power, what would it be?
Making spinach taste like pizza.
What’s your favorite book that you wrote?
Probably the first Adventurers Guild book, because it was the first book that I wrote with my best friend, Zack. Writing with a friend is so much fun.
What’s your favorite book that you didn’t write?
I love the Tapestry series by Henry H. Neff.
How long does it take you to write a book?
It depends on the type of book. A chapter book (for example, a Woodsword Chronicles book) takes me 2 or 3 months to write. A novel takes between 6 months and a year. A Step Into Reading book only takes about a week!
What are your hobbies?
I love comic books, video games, and Dungeons & Dragons. My son is too young for those things, so I also enjoy taking him to the playground and reading board books to him.
